Import Coffee from India to Russia
Alstoe India Exports supplies green Arabica and Robusta, custom-roasted and instant coffee to Russian importers, roasters and private label brands through a strong network of verified suppliers across Coorg, Chikmagalur and Wayanad. For the lots we supply, we provide cup scoring with the score fixed in writing, GrainPro-lined packing, full origin and export documentation and the exporter-side paper for your EAC declaration, loaded at Mangalore, Cochin or Chennai for Novorossiysk, St Petersburg or Vladivostok.
In short: To import coffee from India to Russia, a Russian buyer clears through a customs broker with an EAC declaration of conformity under the EAEU food safety regulation TR CU 021/2011, registered by an EAEU-resident applicant, and orders green Arabica or Robusta under HS 0901.11, which enters at zero duty under the EAEU common customs tariff, with import VAT accounted on entry. Russia applies no EUDR: the EU deforestation regime does not extend to the EAEU. Payment runs on advance, with rupee settlement available through special rupee vostro accounts. Shipments load at Mangalore, Cochin or Chennai for Novorossiysk or St Petersburg in roughly three to four weeks, or Chennai to Vladivostok in about 24 days.
Why Russian buyers source coffee from India
Russia is one of the world's largest coffee-consuming nations, and the market has crossed a cultural line: coffee has been steadily taking share from tea in what was historically a tea country, with coffee now reaching about nine in ten Russian consumers. The structure of that demand is what makes Russia distinctive. Instant coffee is the largest segment per person, mainstream and private label blends carry high Robusta proportions, and a fast-growing roaster and out-of-home scene is layering fresh-roast demand on top. Supply, meanwhile, has been repriced: with Brazilian and Vietnamese raw material at elevated prices, Russian buyers have been actively widening their origin base.
India has been the visible winner of that widening. Russia is consistently a top-five destination for Indian coffee, taking around 5% of Indian coffee export value, and strong Russian buying was one of the drivers behind Indian coffee exports reaching a record of over 2 billion dollars in calendar 2025 by Coffee Board permit data. The fit is structural. India is the world's seventh-largest coffee producer and a top-five producer of Robusta, which is over 70% of the crop, exactly the species Russian blends and instant manufacture run on. India is also one of the world's major instant coffee producers, with value-added coffee close to 38% of Indian coffee export value, which lines up with Russia's instant-led consumption. And the two countries have spent the past few years building dedicated trade infrastructure: rupee settlement through special rupee vostro accounts, established container routings via Suez to Novorossiysk and St Petersburg, and the Chennai to Vladivostok Eastern Maritime Corridor, operational since late 2024, cutting the eastern route to about 24 days.
The compliance picture is simpler than Western Europe, and worth stating plainly: Russia applies no EUDR. Coffee entering Russia is governed by the Eurasian Economic Union's technical regulations, led by TR CU 021/2011 on food safety with an EAC declaration of conformity, not by the EU deforestation regime. For an importer, that means no geolocation due diligence statement is required, while the food safety, labelling and phytosanitary layers still apply and are audited at entry.
At Alstoe India Exports, we run the Russia lane the way Russian importers audit it: grade and screen fixed to Coffee Board classification, cup scoring fixed in writing through SCA-certified Q-graders at a partner facility, GrainPro-lined packing with ochratoxin testing, the exporter-side document set your EAC applicant needs, and the complete Indian coffee range behind it, green, roasted and instant.
No EUDR in Russia: the compliance stack is EAEU
The EU Deforestation Regulation applies to goods placed on the European Union market; it does not apply to imports into Russia or the wider Eurasian Economic Union. Coffee into Russia instead runs on the EAEU technical regulations, led by TR CU 021/2011 on food safety with an EAC declaration of conformity registered by an EAEU-resident applicant, TR CU 022/2011 on labelling for consumer packs, and phytosanitary control at entry. For buyers who also serve EU-bound flows, we can still supply plot geolocation and harvest data for the lots we ship, so one supply base covers both regimes. Reviewed July 2026.
Indian coffee grades Russian buyers ask for
Indian coffee is graded under the Coffee Board system by species, processing and screen size. For Russia we supply washed Arabica Plantation from AA down to C (PL AA, PL A, PL B, PL PB, PL C) and natural Robusta Cherry from AA down to C (RC AA, RC A, RC AB, RC B, RC C, RC PB), with Robusta Cherry AA and AB the workhorses for Russian blends and instant manufacture, and Plantation A the washed Arabica base. The full grade-by-grade classification, cup profiles and specialties such as Monsoon Malabar and Kaapi Royale sit on our coffee page; this page stays focused on the Russia lane. Beyond the stock range, Arabica Cherry, Robusta Parchment including Kaapi Royale and the monsooned specialties are sourced on request through the supplier network, subject to season. The current price list is shared on quote against your grade and quantity.
Green, roasted and instant at a glance
| Format | HS Code | EAEU Import Duty | Import VAT | EAC Conformity | Typical MOQ |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Green beans | 0901.11 | Zero under the common customs tariff | Accounted by the importer on entry | Declaration under TR CU 021/2011 | One 20 ft FCL, about 18 to 20 tonnes |
| Roasted, whole bean or ground | 0901.21 | Per the current EAEU tariff | Accounted by the importer on entry | Declaration under TR CU 021/2011, Russian-language labelling per TR CU 022/2011 | From 200 kg per roast profile |
| Instant / soluble | 2101.11 | Per the current EAEU tariff | Accounted by the importer on entry | Declaration under TR CU 021/2011, Russian-language labelling per TR CU 022/2011 | From 500 kg per profile |
Duty and VAT treatment is confirmed with your customs broker at the current EAEU tariff before pricing; the entries here describe the mechanism, not a rate. Green beans and instant are the bulk of this lane; roasted and instant ship under full private label and OEM options with Russian-language artwork proofed before print.
Three levers that set a coffee contract's value
Green coffee is priced on specifics, and disputes happen where specifics were left loose. These are the three levers we fix in writing before a container moves.
Every lot carries its official grade code, screen size and defect tolerance, Plantation A means PL A at 17/64 inch, not "fine washed Arabica" in loose words. The grade on the invoice matches the grade in the bag.
Cup scores are issued by SCA-certified Q-graders at a partner cupping facility from composite pre-shipment samples, and the score is fixed in writing with your order. If a destination sample falls materially below it, we agree a remedy, replacement or price adjustment.
Quotes hold for a defined window, and longer contracts can be structured on transparent differentials referenced to the London Robusta and New York Arabica terminals. No surprise invoices between confirmation and bill of lading.
What Russia requires, and who handles what
Coffee into Russia is an EAEU food import: technical regulations, conformity declaration, phytosanitary control and customs, with no EUDR layer. Here is the split between what you set up once as the importer, what happens per consignment, and what we handle from India.
Your side, set up once (Russian importer)
- Legal entityA registered company in Russia or another EAEU state, acting as declarant
- ConformityEAC declaration of conformity under TR CU 021/2011, registered by the EAEU-resident applicant, valid for serial supply up to five years
- LabellingRussian-language consumer labelling per TR CU 022/2011 for retail packs; bulk green coffee carries the marking on shipping documents
- BankingA settlement channel with your bank; rupee settlement runs through special rupee vostro accounts under the RBI framework
- ClearanceCustoms broker at Novorossiysk, St Petersburg or Vladivostok
Per consignment (shared)
- TariffGreen coffee, HS 0901.11, at zero duty under the EAEU common customs tariff; roasted and instant per the current tariff; import VAT accounted on entry
- Plant healthPhytosanitary certificate from Plant Quarantine India, checked at the EAEU border under phytosanitary control
- SafetyMycotoxin and pesticide parameters within TR CU 021/2011 limits, tested per lot and recorded on the Certificate of Analysis
- OriginCertificate of Origin and ICO Certificate of Origin with every shipment
- DeforestationNo EUDR statement required; traceability data available on request
Three details Russian buyers appreciate having stated plainly. First, conformity: the EAC declaration under TR CU 021/2011 is registered by an applicant resident in the EAEU, normally you as the importer, and our side of that file, specifications, test reports, origin and export documents, is prepared and shared before the consignment sails so registration is not the bottleneck. Second, the money: since 2022 the Reserve Bank of India's framework has allowed export and import settlement in rupees through special rupee vostro accounts, Russian banks hold such accounts with Indian banks, and the mechanism has been progressively eased, so an advance-payment coffee contract between India and Russia has an established settlement rail that does not depend on Western correspondent banking. We agree the exact channel with you before contract. Third, what is absent: there is no EUDR in Russia. No geolocation due diligence statement, no operator registration in the EU information system, none of the deforestation paperwork that now shapes coffee into Western Europe. The layers that do apply, food safety, labelling, phytosanitary control and customs, are the ones this page walks through, and they are process, not obstacle, when the file is prepared properly.
What we hold in India
IEC from the DGFT and Coffee Board of India exporter registration, with export permits, the Certificate of Origin and the ICO Certificate of Origin handled per consignment. FSSAI, HACCP and ISO certifications are held across the supplier and manufacturer network.
What we test before despatch
Moisture at 10 to 12%, screen uniformity, defect count, ochratoxin A to your agreed specification and pesticide residues against your market's limits at accredited labs, plus Q-grader cupping, recorded on the Quality Report and Certificate of Analysis.
What travels with the cargo
Invoice, packing list and bill of lading matched to your bank documents word for word, Certificate of Origin and ICO origin, phytosanitary and, where applicable, fumigation certificates, the Quality Report with the agreed cup score, and the exporter-side file for your EAC declaration.
Six sourcing risks and how we remove them
Payment channels that stall the contract
Sanctions on correspondent banking mean a Russian importer's usual dollar or euro wire can fail between banks, and a supplier without an India-Russia settlement setup walks away or demands terms no importer can meet.
An established rupee settlement rail
India and Russia settle trade in rupees through special rupee vostro accounts under the RBI framework, a channel that has been running since 2022 and does not depend on Western correspondent banks. We agree the settlement route with you before contract, and orders run on advance payment with the channel tested before production.
Pre-shipment sample cups better than the container
The classic complaint against loose suppliers: the sample roast is clean, the bulk arrival shows higher defects and a different cup, and the buyer paid for a grade they did not receive.
Composite sampling and a cup-score lock
Samples are drawn composite-style from across the container load, the Q-grader score is fixed in writing with the order, and a destination sample falling materially below it means we agree a remedy by replacement or price adjustment.
Moisture and ochratoxin trouble in transit
Coffee absorbs moisture over a three-to-five-week voyage, and a moisture spike in standard jute means mould risk and mycotoxin findings when the lot is tested against TR CU 021/2011 parameters.
GrainPro liners and ochratoxin testing per lot
Standard packing is 60 kg jute with GrainPro hermetic liners holding moisture stable through transit, every consignment carries an ochratoxin A report from an accredited lab worked to a 5 ppb maximum on green beans, and desiccants with humidity monitoring are available for sensitive programmes, including the longer Baltic routing.
An EAC file that holds the container at the border
The declaration of conformity is the importer's to register, but it stands on exporter paperwork. Missing specifications, test reports or origin documents mean the declaration cannot be registered in time and the cargo waits.
The exporter-side EAC file, before the vessel sails
Product specifications, accredited-lab test reports, origin certificates and export permits are compiled and shared with your applicant ahead of despatch, so the declaration is registered while the coffee is on the water, not after it arrives.
Cup score inflation that collapses at the cupping table
A supplier self-assesses a specialty score, the Russian roaster cups it points lower, and the relationship ends on the first container.
SCA Q-graders and independent verification
Scores come from SCA-certified Q-graders, not self-assessment, with joint video cuppings from a partner cupping facility in Karnataka or independent cupping through SGS, Bureau Veritas or your preferred lab arranged on request.
Documents that stall banking and clearance
A mismatch between bank documents, invoice, bill of lading and certificates means refusals, amendments and a container waiting at Novorossiysk or St Petersburg on demurrage.
One consistent set, released within 24 hours
Invoice, packing list, bill of lading, origin certificates, phytosanitary and, where applicable, fumigation certificates, the Quality Report and the EAC exporter file are prepared to match your bank documents word for word and shared within 24 hours of loading, so your broker has the file before the vessel berths.
Indian coffee ports to Russia, three ways in
| Route | Loading | Discharge | Typical Transit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Suez to the Black SeaMain Lane | New Mangalore, Cochin, Nhava Sheva, Mundra | Novorossiysk | About 17 to 23 days direct |
| Suez to the Baltic | New Mangalore, Cochin, Nhava Sheva, Mundra | St Petersburg | About three to four weeks, routing dependent |
| Eastern Maritime CorridorFastest East | Chennai | Vladivostok | About 24 days, versus 40 plus on the old route via Europe |
Shipments move FOB, CFR or CIF to your preference, with insurance certificates issued on CIF terms. The workhorse routing for coffee is via Suez into Novorossiysk on the Black Sea, with St Petersburg serving the Moscow and northwest markets; transits can extend when carriers route around Africa, which is why GrainPro-lined packing matters on this lane. The Chennai to Vladivostok Eastern Maritime Corridor, operational since late 2024, covers about 5,600 nautical miles in around 24 days and serves the Far East and Siberian markets, cutting roughly 16 days against the old Europe-side routing. A multimodal option also exists through the International North-South Transport Corridor via Iran and the Caspian, used case by case. Documents are released early so clearance is ready when the vessel berths. Harvest timing is worth planning around: the Arabica harvest runs November to February and Robusta January to March, so fresh-crop contracts are typically fixed November to March, while Monsoon Malabar finishes monsooning and comes to market from September.
Packing matched to your operation
Materials and options: GrainPro-lined 60 kg jute is our green coffee standard for the Russia lane because it holds moisture stable across the voyage, including the longer Baltic routing, which is the mycotoxin defence your lab checks against TR CU 021/2011 parameters. Roasted coffee ships nitrogen-flushed in one-way valve bags with private label artwork from 200 kg per profile; instant ships in food-grade drums, super sacks or retail formats. Consumer-facing labels are proofed in Russian per TR CU 022/2011, alongside English, before print, and bulk green coffee carries its marking on the shipping documents.

Russia coffee import questions, answered
Does Russia require EUDR compliance for coffee imports?
No. The EU Deforestation Regulation applies to goods placed on the European Union market and does not extend to Russia or the Eurasian Economic Union. Coffee imported into Russia is governed by the EAEU technical regulations instead, led by TR CU 021/2011 on food safety with an EAC declaration of conformity, TR CU 022/2011 on labelling for consumer packs, and phytosanitary control at the border. No geolocation due diligence statement is required. For buyers who also serve EU-bound flows, we can still supply plot geolocation and harvest data for the lots we ship.
What is an EAC declaration and who registers it?
The EAC declaration of conformity is the document confirming that a food product meets the EAEU technical regulations, principally TR CU 021/2011 on food safety. It is registered by an applicant resident in the EAEU, normally the Russian importer, and for serial supply it can remain valid for up to five years. The declaration stands on exporter paperwork, product specifications, accredited-lab test reports and origin documents, and we compile and share that file before the vessel sails so registration happens while the coffee is on the water.
What duty and tax apply on coffee imports into Russia from India?
Green coffee under HS 0901.11 enters at zero duty under the EAEU common customs tariff, while roasted and instant coffee attract duty per the current tariff, confirmed with your customs broker before pricing. Import VAT is accounted for by the importer on entry. Unlike Germany or Belgium, Russia levies no separate national coffee excise on top of these.
How does payment work between India and Russia?
Orders run on advance payment, and the settlement rail is established: since 2022 the Reserve Bank of India's framework has allowed export and import settlement in rupees through special rupee vostro accounts that Russian banks hold with Indian banks, a channel that does not depend on Western correspondent banking and has been progressively eased since. We agree the exact settlement route with you before contract and test the channel before production begins.
Which Indian coffee grades suit Russian roasters and instant manufacturers best?
From our stock range, Robusta Cherry AA and AB carry the body, sweetness and crema that Russian blends are built on, with RC B and C serving industrial blends and instant manufacture at volume, which matters in a market where instant is the largest segment. On the Arabica side, Plantation A is the washed blend foundation, Plantation AA and Peaberry serve the growing specialty scene, and Plantation B and C cover commercial lines. Washed Robusta Parchment including Kaapi Royale and the monsooned Malabar specialties are arranged on request through the network.
How long does shipping take from India to Russia?
The main lane runs via Suez to Novorossiysk on the Black Sea in about 17 to 23 days direct, with St Petersburg on the Baltic at roughly three to four weeks depending on routing, and longer when carriers divert around Africa. The Chennai to Vladivostok Eastern Maritime Corridor, operational since late 2024, takes about 24 days and serves the Far East, against 40 plus days on the old routing via Europe. Documents are released within 24 hours of loading so clearance is ready when the vessel berths.
How do you protect coffee against ochratoxin A on the voyage to Russia?
Ochratoxin risk comes from moisture movement during a three-to-five-week transit, and lots are tested against TR CU 021/2011 mycotoxin parameters. Our standard packing is 60 kg jute with GrainPro hermetic liners that hold internal moisture stable, and every consignment carries an ochratoxin A report from an accredited lab, worked to a 5 ppb maximum on green beans as our standard specification. Desiccant packs with humidity monitoring are available for sensitive programmes, including the longer Baltic routing.
What is the minimum order quantity?
For green beans, one 20 ft FCL of approximately 18 to 20 tonnes, loaded as 60 kg GrainPro-lined jute bags. Roasted coffee runs from 200 kg per roast profile and instant from 500 kg per profile, both with full private label and OEM options including Russian-language artwork. Trial and LCL structures can be discussed for first orders.
Do retail packs for Russia need Russian-language labelling?
Yes. Consumer-facing packs sold in Russia carry Russian-language labelling under TR CU 022/2011, covering the product name, composition, quantity, dates, storage and the manufacturer and importer details, with the EAC mark applied. We proof Russian and English artwork before print for roasted and instant private label programmes. Bulk green coffee is exempt from consumer labelling and carries its marking on the shipping documents instead.
Can Monsoon Malabar and specialty Indian coffee be supplied to Russia?
Yes. Monsoon Malabar AA, the monsooned Arabica whose bold, earthy, low-acid cup has a following among roasters serving drinkers who find standard origins too bright, comes to market from September and is supplied on request through the network, subject to season. Traceable single-origin lots with estate-level lot cards, GPS location and harvest data serve Russia's growing specialty scene, and organic lots can be sourced on request with the certificate chain intact on longer lead times.
